My comments were referring only to the shedding of hair from propecia. Yes, it is very common for propecia to cause shedding--however, that shedding is the strongest indication that the drug is taking effect and that your body is reacting to it. Remember, your body is undergoing a serious hormonal change, and the additional shedding is reactionary. Also, the hairs being shed were those already in the telogen (resting) phase, and they would have fallen out whether you were taking propecia or not. The propecia simply accelerates the shedding and makes way for the new growth. ALLOW THE MEDICINE THE PROPER TIME REQUIRED TO WORK!! People, don't make statements like "Propecia causes hair to fall out" simply because you abandoned the medicine in mid-course when you panicked (understandably) and discontinued the medicine because of a common side-effect. I would venture to say that 95% of these comments are from guys who quit prematurely after the panic of shedding set in and never stayed on Propecia long enough to be able to recognize that the shedding does, indeed, cease, and that Propecia actually does work. Before beginning Propecia...accept the fact that the situation may get worse before it gets better. The only way to see results is to stick with it. My heart goes out to all you guys who came away with horrible conclusions because you stopped using Propecia prematurely and were mis-informed as to a very common side-effect. Get back on Propecia and give it a chance to work! Remember...the 83% success rate was based on using Propecia for two years. Don't make mis-informed conclusions after only being on Propecia for six months! Good luck to all and let's keep this dialogue going and help those who need direction in making informed decisions.
